ERIE, Pa. -- The Southern Division-West Region title could be decided this weekend as Gannon University, Mercyhurst College, Pennsylvania State University-Behrend, Salem International University, Washington & Jefferson College and Notre Dame College (Ohio) battle it out in eight league games.
Competition begins on Friday, September 30 when Gannon University hosts West Region front-runner Merychurst College at 7:00 p.m. in a battle of Division II Erie squads.
Mercyhurst enters the game with a 6-0 mark in Southern Division-West Region play, one game in front of first-year program Notre Dame (5-1), while Gannon (3-4) stands in a tie with Washington & Jefferson College (3-3) for third in the region.
Saturday, October 1 brings a new month and two sites as Penn State-Behrend (0-5) hosts Mercyhurst at noon before taking on Salem International (0-4) at 4:00 p.m. In the evening, Salem will hike over to Mercyhurst for a 7:00 p.m. contest.
Competition resumes on Sunday, October 2 at PSU-Behrend as the Behrend Lions take on Gannon at 2:00 p.m. in a continuation of the pairs crosstown rivalry in Erie.
Across the state line, things will heat up as Notre Dame of South Euclid, Ohio hosts Washington & Jefferson at noon before a showdown versus Mercyhurst at 4:00 p.m. that could decide the Western Region title and a higher seed at the 11-team Southern Division Championship set for November 4-6 at Princeton University in Princeton, N.J.
