BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Bucknell University sophomore Alex Nowlin (Coto de Caza, Calif./Tesoro) tallied seven goals, eight assists, two steals and a field block in a 2-0 weekend for the Bison at the Navy Labor Day Open to earn the September 5 Men's Varsity Southern Division Player of the Week award.
The award marks the second of the week for Nowlin who was named the Bucknell's Susquehanna Valley Limousine Bison Athlete of the Week on Monday afternoon.
The highlight of the weekend for the No. 19-ranked Bison was a 16-10 victory over defending Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Eastern Champion and No. 11-ranked St. Francis College (N.Y.) that snapped a 22-game losing streak for Bucknell to the Terriers. Nowlin tallied a team-high eight points on four goals and four assists with a stetal in that contest. The eight points were the most by a Bison since Richie Hyden tallied nine last Sept. 24 vs. Johns Hopkins University. Nowlin also added one steal to help a defense that yielded just six first-half goals in the two weekend games.
Nowlin opened the 2011 campaign with a steal, a field block and seven points on three goals and four assists in a 21-6 victory over Gannon University on Saturday.
With a team-high 15 points through just two games, Nowlin is already more than halfway to his freshman-year total of 25 points.
