No. 9 Grove City College Clinches Division III Eastern Championship No. 1 Seed By Downing Chatham University, Pennsylvania State University-Behrend & No. 10 Washington & Jefferson College

UTICA, N.Y. -- The Grove City College women's water polo team improved to 10-0 in Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division III play by earning three victories at Utica College. The Wolverines the day by humbling longtime rival Washington & Jefferson College, 14-4, before rolling to an 18-3 win over Pennsylvania State University-Behrend. Grove City concluded the weekend with a 17-5 win over Chatham University to complete a perfect regular season in the conference.

Seven different Grove City players goals against W&J. Senior Andrea Wilson (Newberg, Ore./Veritas) paced Grove City with four goals, while senior Chelsea Johnson (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) added three goals. Sophomore Abby Wells (Ashland, Ohio/Ashland) and freshman Jocelyn Hinkle (Freeland, Pa./Hazleton) both scored twice.

Sophomore Kristi Baur (North Wales, Pa./North Penn), senior Amy Fleming (Annandale, Va./Annandale) and senior Amanda Brush (Charlton, N.Y./Schenectady Christian) all scored once.

Baur distributed four assists while Johnson and Wilson assisted on three goals each. Hinkle had two assists and freshman Lauren Hulsebus (Belmont, Mich./Rockford) had one assist.

Baur also led the defense with five steals. Hinkle recorded four takeaways. In goal, junior Amanda Johnston (San Luis Obispo, Calif./San Luis Obispo) stopped eight shots.

Four Wolverines had multi-goal efforts in the win over Penn State Behrend. Johnson pumped in seven goals for Grove city while Hulsebus and Wells each scored three goals. Baur scored twice. Brush, Hinkle and senior Amy Fallas (Gaithersburg, Md./Montgomery) all scored once.

Baur and Hulsebus each assisted three goals while Hinkle, Fleming and Wilson had two assists. Fallas, Johnston and Wells each recorded one assist.

Johnston made 11 saves in goal to earn the win.

Wilson scored a team-high five goals against Chatham and Wells added four goals. Baur and Hinkle each scored twice while Brush, Fleming, Hulsebus and Johnson all scored one goal.

Hinkle and Hulsebus assisted on four goals each while Baur, Johnson and Johnston had two assists. Baur, Fleming and Wilson had one assist.

Wells led the defense with three steals. Johnston stopped 14 shots in goal. Grove City led 8-0 after the first period.

Grove City has clinched the No. 1 seed for next weekend's CWPA Division III Championship, which will be played in the Wolverines' James E. Longnecker Pool next Friday and Saturday.
