BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Indiana University freshman Alexis Jones (Mundelein, Ill./Mundelein) scored twice, including the game-winner, in the fourth quarter to key the No. 14 Hoosiers to an 8-7 win at No. 9 University of Michigan in front of a national television audience on the Big Ten Network and earn the April 2 Women's Varsity Western Division Rookie of the Week award.
Against the Wolverines, she added an assist, a field block and four earned exclusions to go along with her pair of markers to key Indiana to the one-goal victory.
Her biggest goal of the game came with 46 seconds remaining on the clock as she netted the deciding factor to hand the Hoosiers' the win. The victory moved Indiana into a tie with Michigan and the University of Maryland on top of the Western Division standings and guaranteed the Hoosiers at least the No. 3 seed for the division championship tournament at home in Bloomington, Ind. on April 14-15.
The honor marks the first in Jones' collegiate career as she now has 20 goals, seven assists, 11 steals, five field blocks and 24 earned kickouts to date in her first season with the Hoosiers.
