WHITTIER, Calif. -- Connecticut College opened its 2012 season on the West Coast with a close contest as the Camels fell to the Division III No. 7-ranked Whittier College Poets, 14-10.

Junior Kristin Lampley netted four goals and grabbed seven steals to lead the Camels in the setback. Nicky Jasbon and Kate Jacobson both scored twice for the visitors in their collegiate debut.

Senior captain Emily Hunter and Megan Wright chipped in with scores for Connecticut College.

Junior net-minder Pamela Lovejoy made six saves in the cage.
