Princeton Men's Water Polo to Host Santa Clara on ESPNU as Part of Invitational Schedule
PRINCETON, N.J. --
The schedule for the 2010 Princeton Men's Water Polo Invitational
has been announced. The Tigers will play five games during the
three days, including a Friday night game against Santa Clara
University that will be televised live from DeNunzio Pool on
ESPNU.
The game will mark the second time in as many seasons that a
Princeton men's water polo game will appear on live television.
Last season ESPNU aired Princeton's season opener against UCLA.
Over the past three seasons, the Princeton water polo events have
been televised live on ESPNU, including a women's game in the 2009
season.
The Princeton/Santa Clara game will be each team's second game of
the season. Princeton will open the season at 12 noon the same day
against California Baptist University, while the Broncos will have
one game under their belts, a meeting with the University of
California the previous weekend. The game will also be the second
of the 2010 Princeton Invitational, which will include 17 games
over three days. In addition to Santa Clara and Cal Baptist,
Princeton will face Iona College, Harvard University and Fordham
University.
Princeton was 16-12 in 2009 and won the Collegiate Water Polo
Association (CWPA) Eastern Championship for its first NCAA
Tournament berth since the 2004 season. Princeton finished third at
the NCAA Championship with a win over Loyola Marymount University
in the third-place game. Santa Clara was 22-12 and placed third in
the WWPA last season.
