21 Water Polo Student-Athletes Named Mercyhurst College Scholar-Athletes
ERIE, Pa. -- 21 members of the men's and women's water polo teams were among 284 studdent-athletes to earn notice as Mercyhurst College Scholar-Athletes for the 2010-11 academic year.
Students named to the annual
scholar-athlete list must own a cumulative grade point average of
3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale. This year's total represents more
than half (50.6%) of the 561 student-athletes involved in 24
varsity sports at Mercyhurst College.
"The dedication that our student-athletes demonstrate in the
classroom is evident in these numbers," said Mercyhurst Director of
Athletics Joe Kimball.
"Our kids strive to put their best foot forward when it comes to athletic competition, as evidenced this past year by the accomplishments that Mercyhurst had athletically. It was our best overall year in school history. But, these numbers prove that our student-athletes feel that the classroom is just as important a venue."

grade point average during her career at Mercyhurst.

All 24 varsity sports had at least four student-athletes named to the list, with 17 teams claiming 10 or more honorees. Men's lacrosse led the way with 26 scholar-athletes, while football had 25 on its squad.
Of the 284 student-athletes represented, eight athletes – Jacob Pilarski (men's golf), Gregg Robbins-Welty and Jorn Van Der Veer (men's tennis), Mary Mancuso and Anna Polaski (women's cross country), Chelsea Hennigan (volleyball), Jessica Clemente (women's water polo), and Ian Grecco (wrestling) – own a perfect 4.0 GPA for their career at Mercyhurst.
A total of 125 honorees own a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or better, with 57 of those athletes boasting a 3.75 GPA or higher.
