Gannon University Sinks Grove City, 8-7
ERIE, Pa.
-- Gannon University outscored Grove City College 5-3 in
the second half to avenge an earlier loss this season and pick up
an 8-7 victory at home in the Carneval Athletic Pavilion.
The score was tied after the first period with each team netting
two scores. Colleen Harriger(Erie,
Pa./McDowell) tied the game at one after Grove City scored
the game’s first goal. Kaitlyn Jacob’s
(Brookfield, Ill./Lyons Township) goal gave Gannon a brief
2-1 lead. The Wolverines scored in the final seconds of the first
period to tie the score at two.
Harriger accounted for the Lady Knights’ only score in the
second period as Grove City scored twice to hold a 4-3 lead at the
half.
The Wolverines struck first in the second half, but Gannon would
score the next three goals to take a 7-5 lead. Kelly
Steininger (Vernon Hills, Ill./Vernon Hills) started the
run, with Jacobs and Harriger providing the other two
scores.
In the fourth quarter, Grove City made the score 8-7 with 1:30
left to play, but the Gannon defense didn’t allow another
goal, earning the win for the Lady Knights.
Harriger (4), Jacobs (3) and Steininger (1) accounted for all of
Gannon’s scoring in the match. Janelle Bartman
(Darien, Ill./Adlai E. Stevenson) finished with six blocks
in goal.
Gannon improves to 3-13 this season while Grove City now stands at
7-9.
