Mantel Nets Five to Help No. 8 University of Michigan Cage Colorado State 15-12
FORT COLLINS, Colo. -- The No. 8-ranked University of Michigan water polo team completed a perfect two-game weekend with a victory 15-12 at Colorado State University at the EPIC Center.
Senior Alison Mantel (Miami, Fla./Gulliver) led the way with five goals and sophomore Kiki Golden (Danville, Calif./Monte Vista) tallied a hat trick. Senior Lauren Orth (Poway, Calif./Poway) dented the twine once and chipped in three assists.
Sophomore Alex Adamson (Coronado, Calif./Coronado) and junior Morgan Turner (Mission Viejo, Calif./Trabuco Hills) split time in the cage, making two stops each.
The Wolverines trailed after one period but surged to an 8-7 lead at the break on two goals apiece from Mantel and Golden. Michigan clung to an 11-9 lead after three periods before putting some distance between itself and the Rams with four goals in the final frame.
