No. 20 Princeton University Tops Wagner College 12-9 at ECAC Championship

2011 ECAC Championship Schedule

LEWISBURG, Pa. -- The No. 20-ranked Princeton University women's water polo team opened the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship on Saturday morning with a 12-9 win over Wagner College in the quarterfinal round. Princeton will play in the semifinals tonight against the University of Maryland.

Katie Rigler led the Tigers with three goals, scoring on an ejection, a counter and five-meter shot. Lauren Brunner and Saranna Soroka each scored twice in the win and five others scored once. Brunner and Cari Levine led the team with three assists each in the win. Brittany Zwirner had a team-high three steals to go along with a single goal scored. In goal, Grace du Pont made seven saves in a minute shy of a full game.

Princeton jumped to a three-goal lead in the game and led 4-2 at the half. Princeton spread the margin to five in the third quarter before Wagner closed the gap to three in the final frame. Princeton was 1 of 5 in man-up situations while Wagner scored twice on five chances. The win moves Princeton to 4-1 this season.
