CEDAR CITY, Utah -- Harrison Tingler (Fr., Newport, Calif.) netted three goals to lead 11 University of Oregon scorers as the No. 6-nationally ranked Ducks stopped host Southern Utah University 18-0 in the consolation round of the 2010 Men's National Collegiate Club Championship at SUU's Sorenson Center.
The Ducks advance to face the University of North Carolina at 1:40 p.m. on Saturday, November 13 with a berth in the ninth place game on the line. Southern Utah will meet the University of Georgia at 8:40 p.m. on Saturday in one of two 13th place games.
Due to the 30 game schedule of the National Collegiate Club Championship and the amount of pool time available, the 13th and 15th place matches are not played, thus causing the winner of the Thunderbirds' next game to be one of two 13th place teams, while the loser is among a pair of 15th place finishers in the 16-team field.
Oregon reeled off six goals in the first period, four more in the second, two in the third and six in the fourth to overpower the first-year Southern Utah program.
Taylor Herman (Jr., San Ramon, Calif.), Matthew Stang (Jr., Novato, Calif.), Conor Broom (Sr., Redwood, Calif.), Kyle McDermott (Fr., Stockton, Calif.) and Robert Brumley (Fr., Tualatin, Ore.) all contributed pairs of goals in support of Tingler, while five other Ducks chipped in solo markers.
In cage, David Jamplosky (So., Eugene, Ore.) earned the win for Oregon with eight saves. Jonah Hafen (Fr., Cedar City, Calif.) notched 10 blocks for the Thunderbirds.
