CWPA Releases Referee Compensation Changes for 2010-11 Season

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- The Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) recently announced several changes to the compensation received by the league's officials.  Starting immediately, air fare stipends, tournament travel stipends, club game fees, per diem and varsity officials minimum stipends for a weekend will increase.

"Each year we try to provide greater support for our officials and have concentrated on increasing the reimbursement schedule for the last few years," noted CWPA Commissioner Dan Sharadin.

For club tournaments, officials stipend for air travel improves from $200 to $250, while ground transportation compensation moves from $125 to $150 for mileage of 176 miles and higher.  In addition, the club game fee increases from $38 per contest for $40.

"Presently hotel costs and meals are currently covered, along with ground transportation. We still need to close the gap for air fares over $250, but the raise in stipend from $200 to $250 is a big step. We also felt it was important to increase the game stipend and have done so for varsity and club games."

In varsity competition, referees will now earn a minimum stipend of $275, up from the previous policy of $250 per weekend.

"Our ultimate goal is to ensure that all expenses are taken care of for each official at every tournament and that the referees are paid a fair rate for their time."
