Keeley Nets Decider in Final Minute as No. 17 Boston College Upeneds No. 19 NYU 8-7 in National Collegiate Club Championship 15th Place Game

TUCSON, Ariz. -- Mary Keeley (Fr., Rockford, Mich.) rifled a shot off the left post and into the back of the cage with 30 seconds left in the fourth period to key No. 17 Boston College to an 8-7 victory over No. 19 New York University in the 15th Place game at the 2010 Women's National Collegiate Club Championship at the University of Arizona.

The game marked the first time in Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) history that the National Collegiate Club Championship featured a 15th place, as well as the 13th place contest, as previously the final four positions in the field were left as ties at No. 13 and 15.

A key to the game was the metalurgical makeup of the posts as Boston College drilled six consecutive shots off the crossbar before Keeley kissed a shot off the left post for the game-winner.

Tied 3-3 at a period of play, BC ran out to a 5-3 lead thanks to man-up and natural goals by Mackenzie Campbell (Jr., Foster City, Calif.) with 6:38 and 6:17 remaining in the first half.  NYU responed to retie the game as Katelyn Schlactus (Gr., Newberg, Ore.) and Nisa Nguyen (So., San Diego, Calif.) tore the twine with natural (5:51) and man-up goals (4:33), but the Eagles retook the lead before the final horn as Keeley cashed in on an exclusion chance with 46 seconds remaining in the half for a 6-5 advantage at the break.

Neither team could muster much offense in the third period until Schlactus rocketed a shot on a man-up chance over the left shoulder of Eagles' netminder Lia Breunig (Jr., Walnut Creek, Calif.) for the equalizer with 2:34 remaining in the period.

The pattern of scoring continued to open the fourth period as Meghan Grimes (Jr., Walpole, Mass.) punched in a marker at 6:03 and Schlactus added her fourth goal of the day with 4:31 on the clock to setup Keeley's heroics in the final minute.

Breunig, who earned Player of the Game honors, recorded six saves in picking up the win, while the Violets' Lauren Reilly (Jr., Huntington Beach, Calif.) notched five stops for NYU.
