No. 2 UCLA Stops No. 8 Penn to Make Fifth Place Game at National Collegiate Club Championship

TUCSON, Ariz. -- Adele Young (Jr., Modesto, Calif.) scored five times to lead six UCLA scorers as the No. 2 ranked Bruins downed No. 8 Penn 16-7 to earn a spot in the fifth place game at the National Collegiate Club Championship.  UCLA will take on either No. 3 Notre Dame or No. 10 Central Florida at 2:15 on Sunday.

The game was tight until the second half as the Bruins turned a 4-4 tie at halftime into a nine-goal win thanks to five goals in the third and seven in the fourth periods.

A key to the game was the number of ejections as Penn was whistled for 10 fouls, allowing UCLA to convert on five opportunities.  Conversely, the Quakers cashed in on only two-of-nine extra man chances.

Besides Young, the Bruins received four goals from both Erica Bonetti (Gr., Burbank, Calif.) and Desiree Wilson (Jr., La Verne, Calif.) to accompany solo scores by Haley Canning (Jr., Palos Verdes, Calif.), Bre Sheldon (So., Laguna Nigel, Calif.) and Catrina Gallardo (Sr., Modesto, Calif.).

For Pennsylvania, Winnie Eastwood (Jr., Carlsbad, Calif.) chipped in five goals, while Natasa Kordic (Sr., Sacramento, Calif.) and Kris Miller (Gr., Houston, Texas) added single goals.

Between the pipes, Amanda Gittleman (So., San Diego, Calif.) racked up four saves in the winning effort for UCLA.  Elizabeth Lawrence (Sr., New York, N.Y.) added seven saves for the Quakers.

Penn will next be in action at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 25 in the seventh place game against the loser of a contest between Notre Dame and Central Florida.
