UCLA Hangs On at No. 1 in March 25 Women's National Collegiate Club Poll
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- The University of California-Los Angeles survived a challenge from the University of Michigan to retain its position as the No. 1 team in the March 25/Week 9 Women's National Collegiate Club Poll released today by the Collegiate Water Polo Association league office.
UCLA, which was a unanimous No. 1 selection after tying with former No. 1-ranked the University of Notre Dame in the March 11 poll, saw the consensus on its ranking disappear as the Bruins picked up 98 points to outdistance the Wolverines by just three points.
Michigan, which was ranked fourth in the March 18 poll, climbs up to No. 2, while California Polytechnic State University and the University of California-Davis slide back to No. 3 and 4, respectively.
Notre Dame climbs back into the Top 5 after tying with the University of California-Santa Cruz for sixth place last week. UC-Santa Cruz remains at No. 6, with the University of Oregon and Michigan State University racing up one and four positions, respectively, to take over at No. 7 and 8.
The University of California-Berkeley and Grand Valley State University round out the Top 10 holding down the No. 9 and 10 positions, whie the University of Pennsylvania, San Diego State University, University of Colorado, University of Utah and University of California-San Diego rate at No. 11-15.
The University of
Arizona moves up to No. 16, with Middlebury
College and the University of Texas tying
for No. 17 after ranking 18th and 15th last week. The
University of Central Florida joins UCLA and
UC-Santa Cruz as the only teams to retain a position from the March
18 poll, with California State University-Chico
completing the Top 20.
