Betsey Armstrong Featured on December 4 Swimming World Magazine's "The Morning Swim Show"
LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- USA Water Polo's Betsey Armstrong, the goalie for the U.S. women's water polo national team and the 2009 Swimming World Magazine Women's Water Polo Player of the Year, recently appeared on the December 4 Swimming World Magazine "The Morning Swim Show" to talk about training methods and the struggle for water polo players to make a living in the sport.
Armstrong led the United States
National Team to its third world championship this decade at the
2009 FINA World Championships in Rome, Italy, in July. She made 67
saves on 119 shots in seven games in the cage. She clinched her
second FINA gold medal with 11 saves in the championship game
against Canada on July 31.
She has been a member of the USA National Team since 2006,
securing gold at the XV Pan American Games, FINA World League and
the 2007 and 2009 FINA World Championships. She also guided the
United States to a silver medal at the Beijing Olympics.
Before joining the national team, Armstrong put together a
prolific collegiate career while tending the net for the University
of Michigan. A 2008 Collegiate Water Polo Association Hall of Fame
inductee, she scored All-America recognition four times and was a
Cutino Award finalist as the nation's top player during the 2004
season. She earned a pair of divisional Most Valuable Player honors
(2003-04) and owns every major career goalkeeping record at
Michigan.
The award was chosen by Swimming World Magazine's editors based on
input from various water polo entities throughout the world.
