Bucknell's Donahue & George Washington's Wright Named November 10 Men's Varsity Southern Division Co-Players of the Week

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Bucknell University goalie Nick Donahue (Sr., Brooklyn, N.Y./Lawrenceville) and George Washington University's John-Claude Wright (Sr., Pembroke Pines, Fla./Williston Northampton) were honored as November 9 Men's Varsity Southern Division Co-Players of the Week for their performance during the Collegiate Water Polo Association Southern Division Championship over the weekend at Bucknell.

Wright totaled seven goals on seven-of-17 shooting with eight assists, 10 steals and 10 ejections-drawn in three games to help George Washington place finish at the Southern Championship. 

He posted a goal, assist and five ejections drawn in a 12-5 loss to Johns Hopkins University in the opening round before tallying hat-tricks against Washington & Jefferson College (13-6 W) and Gannon University (14-4 W) for a fifth-place finish.  Versus Washington & Jefferson, he tacked on four assists, seven steals and three ejections drawn before adding three assists, three steals and two ejections drawn against the Golden Knights in the fifth place game.

He concludes the season with 71 goals to rank among the CWPA and National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) leaders, while concluding his career with 203 scores to rank fifth all-time at George Washington.

For Bucknell, Donahue registered 30 saves and yielded just 24 games in over 100 minutes during three games as the Bison finished 1-2 to place fourth and qualify for the Eastern Championship at Massachusetts Institute of Technology next weekend (November 20-22).

He began the weekend by making seven stops in an 11-6 victory over Mercyhurst. College before posting with 10 saves and 13 saves opposite No. 17 Princeton University (10-9 L OT) and Johns Hopkins University (9-8 L OT), respectively.

A two-year starter, Donahue now has 196 saves this season and 456 in his career. His .525 save percentage leads the team and he now owns a .523 career save percentage.

He now has nine double-figure save performance this season, including five in his last seven contests. The veteran has started 25 of Bucknell’s 28 games this year and has appeared in all but one. His 17 saves last month against George Washington were the most by a Bison netminder since 2004.
