Indiana's Cassie Wyckoff Named an Alternate for Speedo Top 40
BLOOMINGTON, Ind.
-- Sophomore goalkeeper Cassie Wyckoff (Los Altos,
Calif./Los Altos) was named an alternate for the 2009
Speedo Top 40 competition, U.S. National Team head coach Adam
Krikorian announced this week. The three day event will be held on
Oct. 23-25 in Los Alamitos, Calif.
Wyckoff is one of four alternates among the 16 players selected at
the conclusion of open tryouts held at the USA Water Polo National
Training Center in Los Alamitos, Calif., Dougherty Valley High
School in San Ramon, Calif., the University of Michigan in Ann
Arbor, Mich. and Harvard University in Cambridge, Mass. The tryouts
were highly competitive and included the largest turnout in the
history of the event, with over 110 athletes taking part.
The Speedo Top 40 competition consists of a round-robin style
tournament where the Top 40 is broken up into four teams. Players
will be vying for selections to the Senior "A", Senior "B", Junior
and Youth teams, while being evaluated by members of the USA
National staff.
Wyckoff started 22 games in goal for the Hoosiers during her
freshman campaign. She finished the year with 195 saves, while
defending 484 opposing shots. She also captured two Collegiate
Water Polo Association (CWPA) Western Division Rookie of the Week
honors during her first collegiate season.
