Wheaton, Carthage & Macalester Join CWPA Women's Varsity Ranks

BRIDGEPORT, Pa.  -- The Collegiate Water Polo Association announces the addition of Macalester College, Carthage College (Ill.) and Wheaton College (Ill. to the league's roster of teams for the 2010 NCAA Women's Water Polo season.

The three institutions become the 19th, 20th and 21st women's varsity teams in the Collegiate Water Polo Association and raise the league's women's varsity membership to five Midwest institutions as Macalester, Carthage and Wheaton join the University of Michigan and Indiana University.

Macalester College

Founded in 1874 and Located in St. Paul, Minn., Macalester College enrolls approximately 1,900 students and offers  36 majors and 35 minors in natural sciences, social sciences, humanities and fine arts.

The women's water polo team concluded the 2009 season with a 17-15 mark, including a seventh place finish at the Division III National Tournament hosted by California Lutheran University, while competing as an independent in the NCAA.

Carthage College

Founded by Lutheran pioneers in education in 1847, Carthage College enrolls approximately 2,375 students who can choose from more than 40 majors and special programs

The women's water polo team finished the 2009 season with a 10-10 record.

Wheaton College

Established in 1860 as a co-ed institution in Wheaton, Ill., Wheaton College is a private, residential and interdenominational Christian liberal arts college that enrolls 2,400 undergraduate students.

Wheaton concluded the 2009 season with a 10-15 record.
