Gannon Handles Washington & Jefferson 15-13

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- A seven-goal third period propelled the Gannon men's water polo team to a 15-13 victory at Washington & Jefferson Friday evening. The win completed a season sweep of the Presidents, who fell 14-10 September 19 at the Carneval Athletic Pavilion.

Gannon led 5-3 after the first quarter, but W&J rallied back and tied the match at six after the second quarter. The Golden Knights jumped back in front with a 7-4 advantage in the third quarter and headed to the final period with a 13-10 lead. The Presidents out-scored the Golden Knights 3-2 in the final eight minutes to account for the final 15-13 score.

John Krakowski (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) led the offensive attack with four goals. Greg Naranjo (Coral Springs, Fla./Stoneman Douglas) also recorded a hat trick with three goals. Stephen Espinet (Port of Spain, Trinidad/Maple Leaf) and Kenny Milburn (Camp Hill, Pa./Cumberland Valley) added two goals each.

Michael Piper (Houston, Texas/Clear Lake), Jamison Anton (North Wales, Pa./North Penn), Phil Myrick (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) and Rob Bullion (Tonawanda, N.Y./Kenmore East) chipped in one score apiece. Neal Zoellick (Homewood, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor) made 11 saves between the pipes.

Gannon evened its record at 5-5 overall and improved to 3-1 in the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) with the victory. Washington & Jefferson dropped to 2-3 overall and within conference play.
