Brown Overcomes MIT 6-5 in CWPA Northern Division Action

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Despite struggling on the offensive end missing 15 shots on goal, the Brown University men’s water polo team pulled off a 6-5 win at Massachusetts Institute of Technology on September 24.

Brown gained a 2-1 lead in the first quarter, and scored one goal in the second to put the score at 3-2. The Engineers tallied one marker in the third to even the score at 3-3, but Bruno was able to outscore MIT 3-2 in the fourth to earn the 6-5 win.

Defensively, Brown gave an outstanding effort, including senior Kent Holland in goal who posted seven saves. Freshman Michael Hartwick also played well defensively, grabbing three steals and making two field blocks.

"We can’t expect to win games when we play so poorly on offense," said Head Coach Felix Mercado. "We were lucky today that our defense bailed us out. We have to find our chemistry on offense soon or it will be a long season."

Leading the offense was Zach Levko and Svetozar Stefanovic with two goals apiece, followed by Marcus Gartner and Corey Schwartz with one.
