Arizona State Sun Devils Rise to No. 1 in September 17 Men's National Collegiate Club Poll
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Arizona State University, fresh off a 3-0 record in the Southwest Division's opening weekend, added to its list of accomplishments as the Sun Devils jumped one spot to become the No. 1 team in the country in the September 17 Men's National Collegiate Club Poll.
Following victories over Northern Arizona University (21-1 W), University of Arizona "A" (19-17 W OT) and Univeristy of Arizona "B" (19-5 W) over the weekend, the Sun Devils ascended to the No. 1 ranking with 96 points.
Overall, no team held its ranking from the preseason poll as all 20 selections either rose, dropped or fell out of the Top 20 poll this week.
Pennsylvania State University was the biggest mover of the week improving 14 spots thanks to wins over University of Michigan (14-9 W), University of Illinois (10-6 W) and Grand Valley State University (15-10 W) as the Nittany Lions took over the No. 2 spot in the poll.
California Polytechnic State University dropped one place to No. 3 this week, while Florida International University, University of Michigan, former No. 1 Michigan State University, University of Florida, University of Texas, University of Arizona and Grand Valley State University round out the Top 10.
Michigan State, which was No. 1 in the preseason poll, went 2-2 in Big Ten Division action over the weekend downing University of Iowa (9-3 W) and Wisconsin (18-3 W), but falling to Michigan (4-3 L) and the University of Illinois (12-11 L). Michigan, which along with the rest of the Big Ten was playing in its first CWPA division sanctioned event, rolled to wins over MSU (4-3 W), University of Indiana (17-7 W), Illinois (15-9 W) and Purdue University (6-2 W) to claim the No. 6 spot in the poll.
University of California-Los Angeles, University of Oregon, University of Pennsylvania, Texas A&M University, University of Illinois, Lindenwood University, University of California-Berkeley, University of Utah, Miami University (Ohio) and Yale University account for positions No. 11-20.
The next collegiate club poll will be released on Thursday, September 24.
