No Lion: No. 11 Princeton Tigers Fall to No. 19 Brown Bears 6-5

PRINCETON, N.J. -- A late rally fell short as the No. 11-nationally ranked Princeton University Tigers was edged by No. 19-ranked Brown University 6-5 at DeNunzio Pool as part of the 2009 Princeton Invitational. Seniors Douglas Wigley and Matt Hudnall both scored twice in the loss for Princeton, while Corey Schwartz added a hat-trick and Svetozar Stefanovic tacked on a pair of markers for the Bears.

Princeton fell behind 2-0 in the first quarter as Schwartz and Stefanovic scored for Brown in the opening period. The Bears pushed the margin to 3-0 in the second period before Hudnall scored to break the ice for Princeton and set the halftime score at 3-1 in Brown's favor.

In the second half, the Bears extended the lead to 5-1 before Gregor Horstmeyer and Hudnall moved Princeton to within two late in the third period. Schwartz's third goal of the game made it 6-3 Brown in the final frame, before Wigley scored a pair of man-up goals to move Princeton back to within a goal at 6-5 with 1:16 remaining, but the Tigers could not get tying goal as Brown held on for the win.

Junior Mike Merlone made 11 saves in cage for the Tigers, including seven in the second quarter. Both teams scored three man-up goals in the game.
