CWPA Releases 2009 Men's Division II Eastern Championship Schedule
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- The Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) has released the schedule for the 2009 Men's Division II Eastern Championship scheduled for September 12 at Gannon University in Erie, Pennsylvania.
Featuring Queens College (N.Y.), Mercyhurst College, Salem International University and the host Golden Knights, the four-game tournament will decide the best Division II program in the CWPA.
Contested four times since 2003, the championship has seen three teams capture the title as Queens (2003), Salem International (2004) and Mercyhurst (2007, 2008) account for the champions to date. Over the past three events, Mercyhurst has been a consistent presence as the Lakers earned a spot in the 2004 title game and knocked off Gannon University the past two years, including a 10-5 victory for the 2008 championship.
Seedings for the championship will be announced early next week and are based on a vote of the four participating head coaches of Curtis Robinette (Mercyhurst), Don Sherman (Gannon), Or Gil (Queens) and Greg Jones (Salem International).
