CWPA Releases 2010 Men's Varsity Southern Division, East Region Schedule
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- The Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) released the schedule of games for the 2010 Men's Varsity Southern Division, East Region. Comprised of the United States Naval Academy, Princeton University, George Washington University, Bucknell University and Johns Hopkins University, the Southern-East has produced six of the past seven CWPA Eastern Champions.
The league schedule will begin on Friday, September 24 when Bucknell travels to Johns Hopkins for an 8:00 p.m. game.
All of the region's teams will be in action on Saturday, September 25 as Hopkins will remain at home against defending Eastern Champion Princeton (noon), Navy hosts Bucknell (noon) and Princeton (8:00 p.m.), while Bucknell treks over to George Washington (8:00 p.m.). The opening weekend will wrap-up on Sunday, September 26 at noon as George Washington hosts Princeton.
League play resumes on Wednesday, October 6 as Hopkins (4:30 p.m.) and George Washington (8:00 p.m.) hosts Navy. The weekend brings a 2:00 p.m. showdown at Princeton between the Tigers and Bucknell on Saturday, October 9.
A week later the attention of the division will be focused on Lewisburg, Pa. as Bucknell hosts Hopkins on Friday, October 15 (8:00 p.m.) before facing-off with Navy (noon) and George Washington (5:30 p.m.) on Saturday, October 16. In other action on October 16th, Hopkins (noon) and Navy (7:30 p.m.) travel to Princeton. The weekend wraps up on Sunday, October 17 as the two weekend hosts square-off in Central Pennsylvania when the Bison host the Tigers in a 1:00 p.m. contest.
Princeton will serve as the site of the next weekend's action as the Tigers host Iona College (10:00 a.m.) of the Northern Division in a non-division game before facing George Washington (2:00 p.m.). George Washington will pick-up an additional game at Princeton as the Colonials will meet Iona (5:00 p.m.) in a non-league game.
Following the CWPA Division III Eastern Championship at Connecticut College and the Division II Eastern Championship at Queens College (N.Y.) on Saturday-Sunday, October 23-24, the Southern Division-East Region slate resumes on Wednesday, October 27 at George Washington when the Colonials face Johns Hopkins (7:00 p.m.).
The regular season wraps-up on Saturday, October 30 at Navy as the Midshipmen meet George Washington (11:00 a.m.) and Johns Hopkins (2:00 p.m.), while the Blue Jays and Colonials finish off the regular season in a neutral site game (5:00 p.m.)
Navy will also be the site of the Southern Division Championship (Friday-Sunday, November 5-7) as the Eastern and Western Regions of the division converge on Annapolis, Md. to decide who is the best team in the South and which four squads advance to the 2010 CWPA Eastern Championship at Bucknell Univeristy on Friday-Sunday, November 19-21.
