27 CWPA Varsity Athletes Earn ACWPC All-America Honors

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) schools received a record 27 All-America awards as the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) announced the 2010 Division I, II and III All-America Teams. The league garnered one first team, one second team and 23 honorable mention awards as 14 schools received awards.

On the Division I team, 13 CWPA student-athletes were recognized led by third team recipients Leah Robertson (utility) of the University of Michigan and Kirsten Hudson (driver) of Hartwick College.  The lead also received 11 honorable mention awards presented to Michigan's Alison Mantel (driver) and Kiki Golden (utility); Indiana University's Jakie Kohli (utility); Bucknell University's Kandis Canonica (utility) and Valentina Rozas (two-meter); Brown University's Lauren Presant (attacker), Sarah Glick (attacker) and Stephanie Laing (goalie); Princeton University's Phoebe Champion (utility); Hartwick's Jessica McKee (driver); and Harvard University's Devan Kennifer (center).

The league received one recipient on the Division II team as Mercyhurst's Rachel Griepsma (driver) garnered honors among the seven players selected to the sole squad in the division.

Leading the way among Division III selections is Grove City College's Amanda Johnston (goalie) who picked up second team accolades.  She is joined on the All-America team by 12 honorable mention selections as teammates Amanda Thompson (driver) and Katie Stiebler (driver); Wheaton College's Heather Crockett (driver), Karalee Angus (goalie) and Emma Higgins (driver); Macalester College's Sarah Ellerton (utility) and Catherine Flint (two-meter); Washington & Jefferson College's Jessica Barby (utility) and Katherine Silvestri (two-meter); Chatham University's Sachelle Taylor (driver); and Pennsylvania State University-Behrend College's MaryEllen Spooner (two-meter) and Jenna Zeyfang (goalie) picked up notice from the ACWPC.
