St. Francis College Releases 2010 Men's Water Polo Schedule

BROOKLYN, N.Y. -- St. Francis College (N.Y.) returns to the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) schedule this year with eyes on advancing to the CWPA Eastern Championship title game for the first time since the 2007 season.

A member of the CWPA Northern Division, the Terriers, who reached the title tilt five times (1999, 2000, 2004, 2005, 2007) with the squad taking the 2005 championship, will open the 2010 season at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Invitational on September 4-5. 

Following a trip to the Bucknell University Bison Invitational on September 11-12 in which the Terriers will take on the United States Naval Academy and the University of Toronto on September 11, before facing the host Bison and Diablo Valley College on September 12.

On September 17-19, the Terriers will compete at the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship hosted by Harvard University.  St. Francis earned the No. 3 seed and could face No. 1 seed Bucknell, No. 2 Princeton University, No. 4 Johns Hopkins University, No. 5 Brown University, No. 6 Fordham University, No. 7 Massachusetts Institute of Technology, No. 8 Iona College, No. 9 George Washington University, No. 10 Harvard University, No. 11 Mercyhurst College and/or No. 12 Washington & Jefferson College.

The CWPA Northern Division league schedule of games begins on September 22 as Iona hosts St. Francis.  On the heels of league games against Brown and Connecticut College in New London, Conn. on September 25, the Terriers will roam to Southern California for a meeting against Pomona-Pitzer Colleges on October 1. 

Head coach Igor Samardzija's team will remain in the sunshine of California on October 2-3 to compete in the SoCal Tournament hosted by the University of California-Los Angeles.

The next week brings a return to CWPA Northern Division action and the home opener against Fordham University at SFC Pool on October 13.  Following home games against MIT and Harvard on October 16 at Flushing Aquatics Park, the Terriers will close out the regular season and the home slate on October 20 versus metropolitan rival Queens College (N.Y.) at SFC Pool.

St. Francis will hit the road for the remainder of its schedule as the Terriers and the rest of the division will travel to MIT for the Northern Division Championship on November 5-7. 

If the team can finish among the top four teams in the North, the squad will advance to the newly redubbed CWPA Eastern Championship on November 19-21 in Lewisburg, Pa. on the campus of Bucknell.

St. Francis, and the rest of the eight-team field, will battle for the league's title and a berth to the NCAA Championship to be held on December 4-5 at the University of California.
