Armstrong & Knox Help US & Australia Pick Up Wins at FINA World League Super Final

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Betsey Armstrong of Team USA and Bronwen Knox of Team Australia helped their teams knock off Canada and the Netherlands, respectively, at the 2010 FINA World League Super Final in La Jolla, Calif.  Armstrong made seven saves in the Americans 7-4 victory of Canada, while Knox added a goal in a 10-7 victory by the Aussies over the Dutch.

A Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Hall of Fame inductee and a former University of Michigan Wolverine, Armstrong's performance helped the USA rally back from a 3-0 first period deficit and advance to a semifinal match-up against Greece at 7:00 p.m. PT on Friday, July 2.

A former Hartwick College Hawk, Knox scored with 6:44 remaining in the first period to break the ice for the Australians to take a 1-0 lead on the way to a three goal victory.

The goal raises Knox's output in the tournament following a 12-8 victory over the Russian National Team and a 14-13 shootout loss to the Americans to seven goals.

Knox and the Aussies will continue the tournament with a semifinal match-up against Russia at 5:30 p.m. on July 2 and sets up the potential for a first place or third place meeting between the two CWPA alums in the placement games on Saturday, July 3.
