Matthew & Raymond Judge '87 Inducted into Iona College Goal Club Hall of Fame

NEW YORK, N.Y. -- Iona College Athletics and the Office of the Goal Club inducted Matthew T. Judge '87 and Raymond A. Judge '87 into the institution's Hall of Fame on Monday, June 7th at Wykagyl Country Club.

"We are extremely pleased to add Matt and Ray into the Goal Club Hall of Fame as the next outstanding student-athletes to receive the ultimate athletic honor bestowed by the College," remarked Iona College Director of Athletics Patrick Lyons.  "Their accomplishments and contributions to Iona will now be forever memorialized in our Hall of Fame."

Swimming & Diving / Water Polo

- Matthew T. Judge was a standout performer in the pool as a dual-sport athlete during his time at Iona College. Matt starred as a swimmer and water polo player and is one of five standout student-athlete brothers at Iona College.

- Matt currently ranks in the top ten in practically every statistical category associated with the Iona College men's water polo record book.  Matt is currently ranked first all-time in career assists with 266, second in career points scored with 534, and sixth in career goals scored with 268.  Matt also ranks in the top ten all-time in kick outs drawn; single-season assists and points scored; and single-game goals, assists and points scored.

- Matt was a two-time team captain during his time as a member of the water polo program.  Matt was also honored as the men's swimming & diving most valuable swimmer in the 1982-83, 1983-84, and 1984-85 seasons.

- During his last season of competition in 1985-1986, Matt led the men's swim program to a 12-3 record and graduated with school records in the 50-Free, 100-Free, 100-Back, as well as 400-Free, Medley Relays, and 800-Free.  Matt was also ranked in Iona's Top 10 in 8 other events.

- Since his competing days at Iona College Matt has continued to play water polo at its highest level.  While teaching English in Hokkaido Japan, Matt played right wing on the Niikappu Town Ice Hockey team from 2003-2006.  In 2005, Matt finished in 597th place out of 2000 at the USA Ironman Triathlon held in Lake Placid.  Matt is also a member of the Iona College Karate Club.

Swimming & Diving / Water Polo

- Raymond A. Judge was a standout performer in the pool as a dual-sport athlete during his time at Iona College. Ray starred as a swimmer and water polo player and is one of five standout student-athlete brothers at Iona College.

- Ray currently ranks in the top ten in practically every statistical category associated with the Iona College men's water polo record book.  Ray is currently ranked first all-time in career steals with 257, third in career assists with 236 and fourth in career points scored with 481.  Ray also ranks in the top ten in career kick outs drawn, goals scored, goal scoring percentage, and points per game; single-season goals scored, assists and points scored; and single-game goals scored, assists and points scored.

- Ray is a three-time team captain of the men's water polo program and was named the team's MVP in four straight seasons from 1983-1986.  Ray was a two-time team captain of the men's swimming & diving program.

- Ray was a 4-year swimmer at Iona and member of Iona's first Metropolitan Collegiate Swim Conference Championship team as a senior captain.  Ray swam on two school record relays (400-Free and Medley). At the time of his graduation he was in Iona's All Time Top 10 in 14 events.

- Ray continues to play water polo at its highest level after his illustrious college career.  Ray spent six months in Australia, most notably representing the State of Queensland in the 1988 Australian National Championships.

- Ray was the recipient of the 1987 Joseph O'Connell Award, presented annually to Iona College's most outstanding male and female senior student-athletes.  Ray majored in Chemistry and attended Iona on a full academic scholarship.  He went on to complete a Masters Degree in Finance at The NYU Stern School of Business.
