Brown University Releases Class of 2014 Women's Recruiting Class
PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Brown University women's water polo coach Felix Mercado recently announced the Bears' Class of 2014 recruits. Mercado's six newcomers will help the Bears improve on its 20-15 overall mark this past spring and will help the program continue to be successful both athletically and academically.
"I'm very excited to add these student-athletes to our program," said Mercado. "Without a doubt they will make an immediate impact and continue to build the success of the program."
Kate Woods is a 6'-0" right-handed utility player from La Jolla, Calif., and La Jolla High School. Woods has been named to the All-League team from 2008-2010. She has been named to the CIF second team in 2009-2010. Woods was named the San Diego Union Tribune Water Polo Student Athlete of the Year in 2010 as well as La Jolla High School Female Student Athlete of the Year. Woods was named team MVP in 2008-2010 where she led them to three consecutive CIF Semi-Finals. She plays for the La Jolla Water Polo Club team.
Emily McNamara is a 5'-9" right-handed utility player from Winters, Calif. and St Francis High School in Sacramento, Calif. McNamara is a two time All-America selection as well as a two time first team All-League pick. She was named to the All-Academic team and was named Player of the Year and League MVP. She helped lead her St. Francis water polo team to four Delta League Championships and two Sectional Championships. She currently plays for the Davis water Polo Club Team.
Gusty Clarke is a 5'-6" left-handed attacker from New Canaan, Conn., who attended Deerfield Academy. Clarke was named to the NEPSAC first team as a senior as she led her team to a second place finish. She was named to the Pacific North West Zone team from 2005-2006 as well as the North East Zone team in 2008. Clarke helped lead Greenwich water polo club to a gold medal in the 2008 Junior Olympics Gold Division. She also named to the Junior Olympics First Team.
Sarah Presant is a 5'-7" right-handed attacker from Poway, Calif., and Bishops School in La Jolla Calif. Sarah has been named to the Western League First Team, Union Tribune All-San Diego Section Second Team in both 2009 and 2010. She was also named to the Union Tribune All- Academic First Team and to the Hall of Champions All-San Diego Section First Team Girls Water Polo Team in 2009. In addition, Presant has helped lead The Bishops School to Western League Titles as well as two CIF Division II second place finishes as well as a CIF Championship in 2007. Presant plays for San Diego Shores Water Polo Club.
Sarah Shin is a 5'-9" goalkeeper from Fullerton, Calif., and Sunny Hills High School. Shin has been named to the All-CIF Division V All-League team in 2009 and 2010. She was also named a USAWP All-Academic selection, she led her Sunny Hills High School team to two Freeway League Championships.
Malaika Drebin is a 5'-9" left-handed attacker from Palo Alto, Calif. and Palo Alto High School. Drebin has been named to the USAWP All-America team and well as served as team captain as a senior. She plays her club water polo for Stanford Water Polo Club.
