Andrew Dentinger Named 2009 Fordham University Most Valuable Player
BRONX, N.Y. -- The Fordham University Athletic Department held its 76th annual Block F Awards Dinner at the Villa Barone Manor on May 6th to honor Fordham University's student-athletes for their accomplishments during the academic year.
Among those honored was senior Andrew Dentinger (Danville, Calif./De La Salle), who was named the 2009-10 men's water polo Most Valuable Player.
Individually he played in his 100th game at Fordham and once again finished among the team leaders in assists as he posted nine goals and 16 assists for 25 points with 10 steals in 28 games.
Serving as team captain, Dentinger helped guide the Rams to their finest season in over two decades, as the team captured a share of the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Northern Division regular season title, finished as runners-up at the Northern Division Championship, and took fifth at the Eastern Championship. The squad's berth in the Eastern Championship field marked the first time since 1987 that the Rams qualified for the eight-team field. In addition, Fordham locked up its first back-to-back winning seasons since the 1987 and 1988 seasons as the Rams conclude the year at 16-14.
He concludes his career in the Bronx with 49 goals and 70 assists for 119 points with 63 steals in 103 games.
