Phoebe Bakanas Receives 2010 Connecticut College Brown-Brooks Award
NEW LONDON, Conn. -- Phoebe Bakanas (Sr., Redding, Conn./Joel Barlow) concluded her career with 167 goals and ends her collegiate student-athlete experience with additional honors as she picked up the 2010 Brown-Brooks Award from the Connecticut College Department of Athletics.
The award recognizes a senior scholar-athlete that best represents the graduating class in scholarship, leadership and sportsmanship. Established by the Class of 1984, the honor is named after its first recipients, field hockey standout Tammy Brown '84 and men's soccer stalwart Jim Brooks '84.
A two-time All-Conference selection earning second team honors on the All-North (2009) and Division III (2010) teams, she led the Camels to a fifth place finish at the 2010 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division III Championship and an 8-6 final record while earning first team accolades on the Division III Championship All-Tournament squad.
An accomplished musician, Bakanas recently received the Sarah Nichols ‘46 Award. The award is presented to a music major that makes the greatest contribution to the musical life of the campus. Bakanas has also been recognized by the Ammerman Center for Arts and Technology with the Smalley/Zahler Award.
On campus, Bakanas served as a head resident of a campus dormitory, supervising and counseling 70 student residents.
