Michigan's Lauren Orth Named May 17 Women's Varsity Western Division Player of the Week

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Lauren Orth (Jr., Poway, Calif./Poway) of the University of Michigan scored eight times, including seven five-meter goals, with three assists to lead the No. 6-nationally ranked Wolverines to a sixth place finish at the 2010 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championship at San Diego State University and earn the May 17 Women's Varsity Western Division Player of the Week award.

Against No. 4-ranked the University of California in the opening game of the championship for Michigan, she posted four five-meter penalty shot scores in a 12-8 loss before adding three goals, including two five-meter scores, and an assist in an 11-3 victory over Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) champion and Division III No. 1-ranked Pomona-Pitzer Colleges.

In the tournament's fifth place game against No. 1-nationally ranked the University of California-Los Angeles, she tacked on a successful five-meter penalty shot and two assists as the Wolverines were edged by the Bruins 9-6.

A 2010 All-Western Division First Team selection, she recorded 47 goals and 38 assists for 85 points in 41 games this year to help Michigan to a pair of titles (Western Division, Eastern Championship) and a 33-8 mark, establishing a new program record for winning percentage (.805) and losses (8).

For her career, Orth has 115 goals and 91 assists for 206 points in 128 games, an average of 1.61 points per contest.
