Macalester's Jeff Yamashita Named 2010 Macalester College Junior Scholar-Athlete of the Year
ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Macalester College varsity swimmer and men's water polo club captain Jeff Yamashita (Honolulu, Hawaii/Iolani) was recently named the 2010 Macalester College Junior Scholar-Athlete of the Year by the institution's Department of Athletics.
The top point-scorer this past winter for the Macalester men's swimming & diving team, he swam to numerous first-place finishes throughout the course of the season. A team captain, as he will be again next winter, Yamashita moved up to the No. 2 position on the program's all-time honor roll in both the 100-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly events. Yamashita was presented with the team's 2010 Bachman Award, given to the person who has done the most to contribute to the success of the program.
In addition, the two-time All-Heartland Division first team selection (2008, 2009) has excelled in water polo earning Division III All-America second team honors in the fall while leading the Fighting Scots to a fourth place finish in the Heartland Division.
Yamashita majors in History and American Studies and has earned a 3.79 cumulative Macalester GPA.
