Five Team Field Set for 2010 National Collegiate III Championship at Carthage

KENOSHA, Wisc. -- Occidental College, Carthage College, Grove City College, Wheaton College (Ill.) and California Lutheran University will clash this weekend as the five teams were selected to compete in the 2010 National Collegiate III Championship in the Koenitzer Aquatic Center on the campus of Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisconsin on Friday-Saturday, May 7-8.
No. 1 seed Occidental (14-15, 8-2 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) enters the championship fresh off an 11-10 loss to Pomona-Pitzer Colleges in the SCIAC Championship game last weekend. Led by CWPA Division III Championship Most Valuable Player Amanda Thompson, No. 2 seed Grove City (16-10, 10-0 Collegiate Water Polo Association Division III) is coming off an 8-7 come-from-behind victory over No. 4 seed and host Carthage (14-7, 9-1 CWPA Division III). No. 5 seed Wheaton (13-12, 9-4 CWPA Division III) placed third at the CWPA Division III Championship hosted by Utica College. California Lutheran (16-12, 8-2 SCIAC) rounds out the tournament field as the Regals earned the No. 3 seed.
Unlike previous National Collegiate III tournaments which featured six teams, this year's event will be highlighted by round robin competition beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, May 7 which will run until the 7:30 p.m. meeting of Occidental and Cal Lutheran on the 7th before resuming at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 8.
The teams will compete to finish among the Top Four teams as the win-loss from the games will decide which programs advance to the third (1:30 p.m.) and championship (3:00 p.m.) games on May 8.
Ticket prices for the Collegiate III Women's Water Polo Championship are as follows:
- All day adult pass - $10
- All day senior citizens/children over 12 pass - $5
Tickets are not sold in advance but may be purchased at the venue the day of the game. All ticket prices are general admission with no reserved seating areas.
