Gannon Falls at Grove City 8-5 in Regular Season Finale
GROVE CITY, Pa. --
The Gannon University women’s water polo team managed one
goal or less in three of four quarters and fell 8-5 in the
regular-season finale at Grove City College. Gannon was among
others receiving votes in the latest Collegiate Water Polo
Association (CWPA) Division I/II poll while Grove City entered the
match as the top-ranked team in the latest CWPA Division III
poll.
Grove City held a 3-1 edge after one quarter, before Gannon cut the
deficit to 5-4 at the intermission. The Wolverines shut out the
Ladyn Knights 2-0 in the third quarter and both teams managed only
one goal each in the final eight minutes.
Molly Andrews (Tustin, Calif./Tustin) tallied two
of Gannon's five goals. Annie Greenhill (Brea, Calif./Brea
Olinda), Colleen Harriger (Erie,
Pa./McDowell) and Sarah Anderson (Erie,
Pa./McDowell) chipped in one goal each. Janelle
Bartman (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Stevenson) recorded nine
saves in front of the net.
Gannon completed the regular season with a 9-19 record. Grove City
improved to 13-10. The Lady Knights return to action Saturday,
April 24 at the CWPA Western Division Championships hosted by the
University of Michigan, while Grove City will travel to Utica
College for the CWPA Division III Championship on Friday-Saturday,
April 23-24.
