Princeton's Kristen Ward Named April 12 Women's Varsity Southern Division Defensive Player of the Week

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Kristen Ward (So., Sacramento, Calif./St. Francis) of Princeton University earned three wins and notched 24 saves against George Washington University, University of Maryland and Bucknell University to garner recognition as the April 12 Women's Varsity Southern Division Defensive Player of the Week.

The award marks the fourth time during the 2010 season Ward has been recognized as the Southern Division Defensive Player of the Week.  She previously shared the award with fellow Princeton goalie Grace du Pont (So., Tarrytown, N.Y./Phillips Exeter Academy) for the week of February 22 and earned the award outright on March 1 and March 22.

Last week, she starred in three consecutive Princeton defensive efforts in which the Tigers averaged less than five goals allowed per game while downing George Washington (13-5 W), Maryland (11-6 W) and Bucknell (4-3) to move within a game of the Bucknell Bison in the Southern Division regular season title race.

Ward contributed six saves versus both Maryland and George Washington, while posting 12 in the one-goal defeat of the Bison.

For the year, she has 182 saves with 157 goals against in 608 minutes of work.
