Grove City Remains Perfect in Division III Play as Wolverines Slash Utica, Chatham & PSU-Behrend

NEW LONDON, Conn. -- The No. 6-nationally ranked Grove City College women's water polo team remained undefeated in Collegiate Water Polo Association Division III league action by earning three more wins in CWPA play at Connecticut College on April 9-10.

On Friday, April 9, Grove City (11-9 overall) earned an 11-2 win over Utica College. The Wolverines added victories versus Chatham University, 15-8, and Pennsylvania State University-Behrend, 12-3, on Saturday, April 10.

Seven Grove City players scored in the win over Utica. Senior Kate Stiebler (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) fired in three goals while junior Lauren Baur (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) and senior Amanda Thompson (Erie, Pa./McDowell) both scored twice.

Juniors Allison White (Clearfield, Pa./Clearfield) and Brittany LaPalme (Hollywood, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) each scored one goal as did sophomore Chelsea Johnson (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) and freshman Michelle Shimrock (Willoughby, Ohio/Willoughby South).

Stiebler and Thompson both had assists in the win. Stiebler also recorded a team-high three steals.

In goal, freshman Amanda Johnston (San Luis Obispo, Calif./San Luis Obispo) stopped eight shots. Grove City led 7-0 at halftime and 11-0 after three quarters.

Stiebler and Thompson both fired in six goals each Saturday morning as the Wolverines opened the day with the win over Chatham. Stiebler became Grove City's all-time leader in goals, surpassing Caitlin Ewing's mark of 160 from 2004 to 2007. Stiebler has 167 career goals after Saturday's action.

Baur, LaPalme and sophomore Amanda Brush (Charlton, N.Y./Schenectady Christian) all had one goal each for the Wolverines. LaPalme also assisted on three goals while Baur and Stibeler both had one assist.

Defensively, Stiebler notched five steals while Baur and White each recorded three takeaways. Johnston stopped eight shots to earn the win.

In Saturday's second match, Grove City charged out to a 10-0 halftime lead against Behrend. Four Wolverines produced multi-goal outings, led by Thompson's four-goal effort. Johnson and Stiebler each scored three goals and Brush registered a pair of scores.

Thompson also assisted on three other goals. Baur notched four steals. Johnston stopped six shots in goal.
