Cal Baptist Handles No. 20 Brown 12-8
SAN DIEGO, Calif.
-- After losing center defender Katherine
Stanton due to an injury suffered during Brown
University's previous game against San Diego State University, a
short-handed Bears squad was not able to overcome California
Baptist University at the Aztec Aquaplex at San Diego State.
Against Cal Baptist, Brown battled for a little over three quarters
before the Lancers were able to pull away with a 5-2 run in the
fourth quarter.
Cal Baptist gained a 1-0 lead after the first eight minutes of
play, and went on to take a 5-3 lead by halftime.
However, the Bears outscored the Lancers 3-2 in the third to put
the score at 7-6, but Cal Baptist lit up for five goals in the
fourth to earn the win.
"It's tough to play without your top defenders against an
offensively talented team like Cal Baptist," said head coach
Felix Mercado.
"We hung in there for the most part but we ran out of steam at the
end. It's been a long trip and I'm hoping we can rebound with good
play on Saturday."
Brittany Westerman and Sarah
Glick led Brown's offense with three goals apiece, while
Lauren Presant tallied the other two goals.
Stephanie Laing picked up 11 saves in the cage for
the Bears.
