No Joke: UCLA Tops April 1 Women's Collegiate Club Top 20 Poll
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- The University of California-Los Angeles garnered 100 points this week to retain its position as the No. 1 team in the country for a fourth week-in-a-row and return to being a unanimous top selection as the April 1 / Week 10 Women's National Collegiate Club Poll was released today by the Collegiate Water Polo Association league office.
UCLA, which was a unanimous No. 1 selection in the March 18 poll after tying with former No. 1-ranked the University of Notre Dame in the March 11 balloting, saw the consensus on its ranking dwindle to 98 points last week. However, last week the Bruins knocked off Purdue University (18-1 W), Miami University (15-5 W), former No. 5 the University of Notre Dame (5-4 W) and former No. 2 the University of Michigan (3-2 W) to remain perfect on the season at 16-0 and return to the ranks of the uncontested top teams in the country.
Defending National Champion California Polytechnic State University moves up one place this week to take over at No. 2, while Notre Dame jumps two places to No. 3 with the University of California-Davis and Michigan rounding out the Top 5.
The No. 6-9 positions in the poll remain unchanged from the March 25 poll as the University of California-Santa Cruz, University of Oregon, Michigan State University and University of California-Berkeley retain their rankings for another week.
At No. 10, the University of Pennsylvania climbs into the range of the elite by cracking the ceiling and moving into the Top 10, while former No. 10 Grand Valley State University slips to No. 11.
San Diego State University and the University of Colorado hold firm at No. 11 and 12 for another seven-day period, with the University of Arizona rising two places to No. 14.
Following a tie between the University of Utah and University of California-San Diego at No. 15, the University of Texas, Middlebury College, California State University-Chico and Boston College round out the Top 20.
Overall, 19 of the 20 teams which rated in the March 25 Top 20 remain in the poll this week, while Boston College moving into the No. 20 spot to replace former No. 19 the University of Central Florida in the poll.
