Bucknell's Hallie Kennan Named March 29 Women's Varsity Southern Division Player of the Week
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Hallie Kennan (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) scored 14 goals, dished out four assists, drew five ejections, grabbed four steals, blocked a shot and registered the game-winning score against the University of Maryland, helping the Bucknell University women’s water polo team to an impressive 3-0 record this past weekend. For her efforts, Kennan was named the March 29 Women's Varsity Southern Division Player of the Week for the third time this season.
Honored as the Bucknell Athletic Department's Damon’s Bison Athlete of the Week, she previously picked up the March 1 and 15 Southern Division Player of the Week awards for beding a dominant force for the Bison throughout the month.
Kennan, who entered the weekend with 70 career points, had a hand in over half of Bucknell’s 35 goals on the weekend. The Bison defeated league rivals No. 19 Princeton University (15-10 W), George Washington University (10-7 W) and Maryland (15-14 W OT) at Kinney Natatorium to improve to 12-7 overall and 4-0 in CWPA Southern Division play.
A left-hander, Kennan tallied a career-high seven points against both Princeton and Maryland, while her score just over two minutes into sudden death overtime handed the Bison the one-goal victory over the Terps. She finished with a career high-tying six goals against Princeton and five more opposite Maryland, boosting her season total to a team-high 46, 14 more than anyone else on the team.
Kennan’s six goals against the Tigers tied her six-goal performance last month versus Iona College for the most goals by a Bison this year, while her seven-point games are the most points by a Bucknell player in 2010.
In addition to her offensive exploits, Kennan drew five ejections, including a career-high four against Maryland, registered four steals and had one field block. She did all of this coming off the bench in all three games. For the year, the sophomore has appeared in all 19 games, but has made just 10 starts.
Following her Player of the Week performance, she now stands second on the team with 60 points this year, eight behind leader Kandis Canonica (Jr., Burlingame, Calif./St. Ignatius Prep). She has scored at least one point in all but two games and has 12 multi-goal contests.
For her career, the sophomore sensation has 59 goals and 29 assists, including 14 helpers this year, for 88 points.
