Matthew & Raymond Judge '87 to be Inducted into Iona College Goal Club Hall of Fame

NEW YORK, N.Y. -- Iona College Athletics and the Office of the Goal Club are proud to announce the 2010 Iona College Goal Club Hall of Fame Inductees.  Kashif Hameed '99, Matthew T. Judge '87, Raymond A. Judge '87, and John C. Tullo '86, '90 MBA will be honored at this year's Hall of Fame Golf Outing on Monday, June 7th at Wykagyl Country Club.

"We are extremely pleased to add Kashif, Matt, Ray, and John into the Goal Club Hall of Fame as the next outstanding student-athletes to receive the ultimate athletic honor bestowed by the College," remarked Iona College Director of Athletics Patrick Lyons.  "Their accomplishments and contributions to Iona will now be forever memorialized in our Hall of Fame."

In addition to this year's Hall of Fame Inductees, Iona College Athletics is once again proud to announce the inclusion of the Donald E. Walsh '66 Award to the Goal Club Hall of Fame Golf Outing.  We are honored to announce that this year's recipient will be 2001 Goal Club Hall of Fame Inductee Joseph G. Rees '54.  Throughout the years, Joe Rees has remained a constant presence in the Iona College Community and is one of the many active alumni to continue to support our current student-athletes through involvement and dedication to the Iona College Goal Club.  The Donald E. Walsh '66 award will be presented annually by the Iona College Goal Cub to an individual who has demonstrated loyal support and service to Iona College Athletics through exceptional volunteerism.

Such a special day not only derives from the superb landscape and challenging course of Wykagyl Country Club, but also an entertaining evening with alumni, friends, and fans of intercollegiate athletics.  Organize your best foursome and join us for an exciting day of golf and pride in the Maroon & Gold!

2010 Goal Club Hall of Fame Inductees:

Mr. Kashif Hameed '99
Basketball

- A standout performer on the basketball court during his time at Iona College which included the 1995-99 basketball seasons.  Led the Gaels to three-straight Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference regular season titles in 1995, 1996 and 1997 and repeat appearances to the National Invitation Tournament facing Saint Joseph's and Connecticut in 1996 and 1997.

- In 1998 after roaring through the MAAC Tournament and capturing the MAAC Championship, led the Gaels to a South Regional match-up against Syracuse in the first round of the NCAA Tournament at the Rupp Arena in Lexington, KY.

- Following the 1998-99 MAAC Championships was named to the MAAC Men's Basketball All-Tournament Team.  Additionally was an All-MAAC selection in 1997 and 1998 and was named the 1998 MAAC's Men's Basketball Player of the Year.

- Currently ranks 21st on the Iona's all-time point scorer's list.  In addition ranks in the top ten single-season lists for blocks, free throws, free throw attempts, and games played.  Was the team's leading scorer during the 1997-98 season, led the team in field goal percentage during the 1996-97 and 1997-98 seasons, and additionally led the team in blocks during the 1996-97, 1997-98, and 1998-99 basketball seasons.

- Joins the Iona College Goal Club Hall of Fame as the 25th Iona College Men's Basketball player or coach to receive the ultimate athletic honor bestowed by the College.

- Kashif is presently an eighth grade English teacher in the Bronx and has been doing so since 2001. He is also a very active member of the youth basketball community and a former director of the youth basketball program S.I.C.K, Saving Inner City Kids.  From 2004-2007 Kashif played basketball overseas in Switzerland and France before finishing his Pro-European career in 2007 and returning to the classroom.

Mr. Matthew T. Judge '87
Swimming & Diving / Water Polo

- Matthew T. Judge was a standout performer in the pool as a dual-sport athlete during his time at Iona College. Matt starred as a swimmer and water polo player and is one of five standout student-athlete brothers at Iona College.

- Matt currently ranks in the top ten in practically every statistical category associated with the Iona College men's water polo record book.  Matt is currently ranked first all-time in career assists with 266, second in career points scored with 534, and sixth in career goals scored with 268.  Matt also ranks in the top ten all-time in kick outs drawn; single-season assists and points scored; and single-game goals, assists and points scored.

- Matt was a two-time team captain during his time as a member of the water polo program.  Matt was also honored as the men's swimming & diving most valuable swimmer in the 1982-83, 1983-84, and 1984-85 seasons.

- During his last season of competition in 1985-1986, Matt led the men's swim program to a 12-3 record and graduated with school records in the 50-Free, 100-Free, 100-Back, as well as 400-Free, Medley Relays, and 800-Free.  Matt was also ranked in Iona's Top 10 in 8 other events.

- Since his competing days at Iona College Matt has continued to play water polo at its highest level.  While teaching English in Hokkaido Japan, Matt played right wing on the Niikappu Town Ice Hockey team from 2003-2006.  In 2005, Matt finished in 597th place out of 2000 at the USA Ironman Triathlon held in Lake Placid.  Matt is also a member of the Iona College Karate Club.

Mr. Raymond A. Judge '87
Swimming & Diving / Water Polo

- Raymond A. Judge was a standout performer in the pool as a dual-sport athlete during his time at Iona College. Ray starred as a swimmer and water polo player and is one of five standout student-athlete brothers at Iona College.

- Ray currently ranks in the top ten in practically every statistical category associated with the Iona College men's water polo record book.  Ray is currently ranked first all-time in career steals with 257, third in career assists with 236 and fourth in career points scored with 481.  Ray also ranks in the top ten in career kick outs drawn, goals scored, goal scoring percentage, and points per game; single-season goals scored, assists and points scored; and single-game goals scored, assists and points scored.

- Ray is a three-time team captain of the men's water polo program and was named the team's MVP in four straight seasons from 1983-1986.  Ray was a two-time team captain of the men's swimming & diving program.

- Ray was a 4-year swimmer at Iona and member of Iona's first Metropolitan Collegiate Swim Conference Championship team as a senior captain.  Ray swam on two school record relays (400-Free and Medley). At the time of his graduation he was in Iona's All Time Top 10 in 14 events.

- Ray continues to play water polo at its highest level after his illustrious college career.  Ray spent six months in Australia, most notably representing the State of Queensland in the 1988 Australian National Championships.

- Ray was the recipient of the 1987 Joseph O'Connell Award, presented annually to Iona College's most outstanding male and female senior student-athletes.  Ray majored in Chemistry and attended Iona on a full academic scholarship.  He went on to complete a Masters Degree in Finance at The NYU Stern School of Business.
 
Mr. John C. Tullo '86, '90MBA
Track & Field

- As a freshman in 1983, John first broke the school Javelin record while winning the Metropolitan Championships with a meet record.  Later that year, John went on to become the US Junior National Champion and also won the Junior International Tri-Meet against Canada and Italy with a throw of 245'.

- John's dominance in both college meets and open meets continued for the next several years, rewriting the school record book and breaking meet records throughout the East.  John improved on a second place finish as a sophomore at Iona at the prestigious IC4A Championships with back-to-back individual titles as a junior and senior in 1985 and 1986.

- John's best throw with the "old rules" javelin was 246' which occurred when he won the Senior Metropolitan Championships in 1984.

- After earning All-American honors as a senior in 1986, John represented Iona at the US Nationals earning a spot as the top javelin thrower in the East.  John then won the bronze medal at the 1986 US Olympic Festival with a school record of 236' 9" with the "new rules" javelin.

- Following graduation, John continued competing on a national level making it to the finals of the 1987 US National championships, earning a spot on the 1987 US Olympic Festival team, winning the Olympic Development section of the Penn Relays, and competing in the 1988 US Olympic Trials.

- At the time of his induction John continues to throw in both open and masters competitions representing the New Jersey Shore Athletic Club.  In 2007, John won the US National Championship in the Masters 40-44 age group.  John has also been inducted into the NJ Shore AC Hall of Fame.
