Wheaton Downs Connecticut & Macalester to Finish 4-1 at Division III Tournament

WHEATON, Ill. -- The Wheaton College water polo team used high-scoring offensive performances to finish 4-1 over the two days of the CWPA Division III Tournament at home.  On Day 2, the Thunder defeated Connecticut College, 12-5, and Macalester College, 15-7 to run its record to 9-9 on the season.

Wheaton's opening Saturday match came against Connecticut. The hosts led 8-2 at the half and kept a comfortable lead throughout the second half. Heather Crockett scored four goals in the game to lead the offensive attack, while teammates Emma Higgins and Linley Sullivan tallied two goals each. Wheaton also had four other players tally one goal, including Jessica McGee, Kathryn Sheehy, Morgan Sorenson and Caroline Hannema.

The Thunder closed out the tournament against Macalester. Wheaton came out firing and quickly built an 8-1 first period lead that would not be challenged. Sheehy and Higgins scored three goals each to lead the Thunder while Crockett, Liz Akins and Emily Bellfi tallied two goals apiece. Sorenson, Hannema and McGee each tallied one goal.
