VILLANOVA, PA - Junior goalkeeper Charlotte Schou made a career-best 21 saves, one shy of the school single-game mark, and senior Marissa Stamler continued her torrid scoring pace with four goals and two assists to lead the George Washington University women's water polo team to a 9-7 victory at Villanova University.
GW (7-9) avenged a season-opening 7-6 loss to Villanova at the Bucknell Invitational in February by outscoring the Wildcats, 3-1, in the fourth quarter. Stamler broke a 6-6 tie with consecutive goals to begin the final period and senior Tara Sullivan provided an insurance goal late as the Colonials won for the fifth time in eight games.
Sophomore Monica Hanson added two goals, while Sullivan, senior Emily Chereson and sophomore Megan Walker tallied one apiece. Chereson chipped in five ejections drawn and sophomore Allison Peotter provided two assists. The Colonials converted 6-of-9 man-up opportunities.
With six points, Stamler surpassed Jenna Burnett for fifth all-time on GW's career points list with 187 points on 127 goals and 60 assists. She is five points shy of Morgan Hooker for fourth in program history and six assists shy of the career Top 5.
