Indiana's Jakie Kohli Named March 22 Women's Varsity Western Division Player of the Week
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Indiana University's Jakie Kohli (So., Burnaby, B.C./Moscrop Secondary) tallied 10 goals, six assists, two ejections drawn and 14 steals to lead the No. 16-ranked Hoosiers to a 2-2 record against Top 20 caliber teams to notch honors as the March 22 Women's Varsity Western Division Player of the Week.
The award marks her third honor from the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) this season as she previously earned the March 15 Defensive Player of the Week and shared the February 8 Player of the Week awards.
She opened the week with two goals, two assists and four steals in a 9-4 win against Sonoma State University before notching four goals, two assists and four steals in a 10-9 overtime victory versus No. 17 University of the Pacific.
Against Pacific, she scored with 1:39 remaining in overtime to put the Hoosiers on top before swiping a steal on the Tigers' final possession to ensure the win.
Kohli added her 18th multi-goal game of the season with four markers, in addition to a steal and a kickout drawn, in a 12-9 loss to No. 7 San Jose State University before chipping in a pair of assists and a career-high five steals in an 8-5 loss to No. 3-ranked the University of California.
On the season, she has team-highs of 59 goals and 50 steals, as well as 21 assists and 15 earned exclusions.
In the history of the Indiana program, Kohli's 59 goals surpass Kristin Stanford's 57 markers (2001) for 10th on the Hoosiers' single-season scoring list. The single-season goals record is 77 by Brooke Zimmerman (2008).
