George Washington's Marissa Stamler Named March 22 Women's Varsity Southern Division Player of the Week

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Marissa Stamler (Sr., Coral Gables, Fla./Ransom Everglades) of George Washington University totaled 24 goals on 47 percent shooting, 11 ejections drawn, six steals and four assists in helping the Colonials to a 4-3 mark during its annual West Coast trip last week.  For her performance, she is the March 22 Women's Varsity Southern Division Player of the Week.

Her selection marks the first time a George Washington women's water polo player has been honored by the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) with Player of the Week honors in a year as Allison Peotter (So., Newport Beach, Calif./Corona del Mar) garnered both the Player and Rookie of the Week honors on March 23, 2009.

Due to her 24-goals last week, Stamler climbed to fifth all-time at GW with 123 career goals and is now five points shy of entering the program's Top 5.  During her career, she has amassed 181 points in 97 games with 123 goals and 58 assists.

She led the Colonials in in scoring during five-of-seven games last week and recorded at least a hat-trick in all but one contest, highlighted by a six-goal, seven-point effort in a 9-7 victory over Division III No. 6-ranked Whittier College.

Stamler posted a single goal against the University of La Verne (14-1 W) before breaking out against Whittier.

Against Concordia University, she chipped in a team-high four goals and four ejections drawn, but George Washington dropped a 10-7 decision.

At the California Baptist University Invitational, she registered a hat-trick in a 10-5 win over Azusa Pacific University before tallying another hat-trick in a 16-9 loss to California Baptist University.  She concluded the weekend with four goals and an assist versus Fresno Pacific University (10-8 W) and a hat-trick against Division III No. 3-ranked University of Redlands (10-9 L).
