Princeton's Kristen Ward Named March 22 Women's Varsity Southern Division Defensive Player of the Week
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Goalie Kristen Ward (So., Sacramento, Calif./St. Francis) of No. 20-nationally ranked Princeton University made 32 saves in 135 minutes of work to earn the decision in the Tigers' 3-2 week on the West Coast and earn the March 22 Women's Varsity Southern Division Defensive Player of the Week award.
The award marks the third time during the 2010 season Ward has been recognized as the Southern Division Defensive Player of the Week. She previously shared the award with fellow Princeton goalie Grace du Pont (So., Tarrytown, N.Y./Phillips Exeter Academy) for the week of February 22 and earned the award outright on March 1.
Last week, she split time with du Pont in three games posting three saves in 20 minutes versus Concordia University (13-9 W), nine saves in 27:09 against Sonoma State University (17-2 W) and three saves in 24 minutes veruss No. 9 Loyola Marymount University (13-3 L). Further, she earned a complete game victory over California State University-San Bernardino (7-4 W), while suffering a loss to No. 14 San Diego State University (10-8 L) as the Tigers are now 12-7 on the season.
