Bucknell Controls Chapman for 14-6 Victory
ORANGE, Calif. -- Ten different Bison scored goals and Kandis Canonica (Burlingame, Calif./St. Ignatius Prep) registered a team-high five points as the Bucknell University women’s water polo team defeated Chapman University 14-6. The Bison improved to 2-1 on their Spring Break trip to California as they outscored their opponent 8-2 in the second half.
Canonica was one of four Bison to net two goals against Chapman, while her three assists equaled Valentina Rozas (Pico Rivera, Calif./El Rancho) for the team lead. She now has 25 goals and 23 assists for a team-best 48 points this season. Her big offensive day brought her career point total to 283.
Amanda Skonezney (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley), Meghan McNally (Floral Park, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy) and Haley Prickett (Newport Beach, Calif./Corona del Mar) also netted two goals apiece as Bison head coach John Abdou adjusted his starting lineup slightly. Three freshmen – Tara Murao (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto), Krystle Morgan (Rowland Heights, Calif./Rosary), Shannon Carroll (Wilton, Conn./Loomis Chaffee) – were in the starting lineup, along with sophomore Skonezney and juniors McNally and Canonica.
Sophomore goalie Brittany Connell (Montebello, Calif./Montebello) got her first start of the year and made seven saves in her 32 minutes of play.
