No. 8 Michigan Picks Up Wins Over Iona, Grove City & Siena at Wolverine Invitational
ANN ARBOR, Mich.
-- Every player to see action for the No. 8-ranked University of
Michigan water polo team registered a point as the Wolverines swept
past Iona College, 14-7, Grove City College, 18-5, and Siena
College, 16-3, at the Wolverine Invitational on Saturday, March 13,
inside Canham Natatorium.
Freshman Kate Hayes (Spring,
Texas/Capistrano Valley) had a six-point outburst against
Grove City to claim the top offensive performance of the day.
Sophomores Morgan Turner (Mission Viejo,
Calif./Trabuco Hills) and Tara
Brigham (Baytown, Texas/Sterling)
and freshman Alex Adamson (Coronado,
Calif./Coronado) each earned victories in the cage.
Five Wolverines found paydirt multiple times against Iona. Mantel
led the charge with two goals and three helpers. Senior
Terri Bukofzer (Vernon Hills,
Ill./Stevenson) was dominant in both ends, pulling three
steals to go with a four-point contest. Turner and Adamson split
time in the cage with the elder netminder earning the win.
Hayes led the Wolverine assault on Grove City with three goals and
three assists. Freshman Natalie Naruns
(Los Altos, Calif./St. Francis) also had a
playmaker (three assists) and freshman Katie
Cutler (Miami, Fla./Gulliver) earned
three steals. Brigham earned the victory in the cage with a
career-high seven saves in the first half.
Sophomore Roxanne Mansfield (San Mateo,
Calif./St. Francis) tallied two goals and two assists as
the Wolverines capped the sweep against Siena. The second-year
two-meter set was one of nine players to record multiple points in
the night cap. Fifth-year senior Brittany May
(Santa Barbara, Calif./Santa Barbara) made six
saves in relief of Adamson, who got the victory.
