Maryland Falls to UC-San Diego & No. 9 Loyola Marymount on Day 1 of Aztec Invitational

SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- The University of Maryland women's water polo team struggled during the opening day of action at the Aztec Invitational on the campus of San Diego State University, falling to UC-San Diego, 12-7, and losing to ninth-ranked Loyola Marymount University, 11-8 on Saturday, March 13.

The Terrapins went toe-to-toe with Loyola Marymount, but the Lions (12-2) rallied from a 6-5 halftime deficit with four third-period goals.

Anne Scott had a game-high four goals for Loyola Marymount.

Shannon Simerly had three goals against UC San Diego in the opening game of the day, but it was not enough as the Titans jumped out to a 7-3 halftime lead and held off a late Terps rally.
